Facial Enhancement

Dr. Kunkel is able to enhance and refine areas of the face and neck for both women and men using surgical and nonsurgical techniques.  Many of these procedures may be performed easily in the office using local anesthesia.

Brow Lift
(Forehead Lift)

browlift, forehead liftA browlift may be the perfect procedure for women or men who are frequently told that they look angry or tired when they, in fact, feel fine.  The procedure reduces horizontal forehead lines and furrows that develop between the eyebrows while lifting the eyebrows to an aesthetically appealing position.  This creates a refreshed, youthful appearance in the upper part of the face.  The procedure may be done alone but is also commonly combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures like blepharoplasties or facelifts.

There are two surgical techniques that may be used to perform a browlift.  Using the more traditional method an incision is placed behind the hairline.  The second technique uses endoscopic methods, allowing the procedure to be accomplished through a few small incisions.  During your consultation Dr. Kunkel will thoroughly examine you and listen to your specific concerns, then make recommendations about what might work best for you.

Facelift
(Rhytidectomy)

Faces change over time.  If you were to compare photographs of yourself from years ago to today, you would notice several differences.  You probably have more and deeper creases.  Jowls may be just beginning or even fairly prominent.  You may have lost some of the youthful contour of your neck, and you may even notice more vertical lines in your neck.  And, the once oval youthful face assumes a more square appearance as elasticity declines and the skin begins to sag.

Facelift surgery can change these telltale signs of aging.  Incision sites are well concealed and the results can be dramatic.  In contrast to some of the "wind tunnel" appearance of facelifts so common in the past, a facelift performed by Dr. Kunkel tends to give a more natural, harmonious appearance.  Many people elect to combine facelift surgery with cosmetic eyelid surgery and a brow lift.

Rhinoplasty
(Nose Reshaping)

The nose is the most prominent feature of the human face. For many people, it is simply a part of their good looks and rarely merits a second thought.
For countless others, the nose is an almost constant source of embarrassment. Today, however, plastic surgery can correct a multitude of faults. Rhinoplasty can shorten, tilt up, build up or straighten.  Rhinoplasty can make the most prominent feature on your face a permanent source of pride. It can give you a whole new appearance and a new outlook on life.  Often this procedure can be combined with functional improvement of the nasal airway through correction of abnormal internal nasal structures.

Rhinoplasties are individualized to meet the patient's needs and expectations. These procedures are performed through predominantly internal incisions and usually include an improvement of the nasal tip, straightening of the dorsum and adjustment of the bony nasal skeleton.  Rhinoplasties may be performed as an open procedure with a small externally visible incision through the columella (base of nose) or may be performed as a closed procedure where all of the incisions are hidden.  Different advantages exist in either approach.  Dr. Kunkel will listen to your concerns and discuss the procedure at length with you.

Collagen Injections

Collagen is a protein found in the second layer of skin known as the dermis (the first layer is called the epidermis).  Additional collagen may be injected into the dermis layer to add  fullness to areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks and forehead.

Lip Enhancement

Full and vivacious lips are often seen as aesthetically important features.  Some of us, however, are born with thin, ill-defined lips.  Fortunately, the appearance of our lips is now within our control.  During this short procedure, performed under local anesthesia in the office, material is placed into your lips to enhance and improve their appearance.

Otoplasty
(Ear Pinback)

Otoplasty, or ear pinback, is done to correct protruding ears.  Although commonly performed on adults, it also happens to be one of few cosmetic procedures that may also be performed on children.

An incision is placed in the natural creases behind the ear and the cartilage of the ear is weakened so that it bends into a new shape. Sutures are also placed internally to maintain the ear in its' new position.

Recovery normally takes one to two weeks.  The changes are usually faily dramatic and be seen immediately, although the final result may not be seen for a few months.

Eyelid Surgery
(Blepharoplasty)

blepharoplasty, eyelid surgeryA common concern among people seeking improvement in the appearance of their eyelids is that friends and acquaintances tell them they look tired or sad.  Laxity of skin and muscle in the lower eyelid results in protrusion of fatty tissue, leading to that "tired" or "allergy" look.

Extra skin and fat of the upper eyelids contributes as well.  Cosmetic eyelid surgery can improve this dramatically and quickly, with relatively little "down time".
