Spring is a Great Time for a Mommy Makeover

Even though ‘mom’ may be the best title you’ve ever had, pregnancy and breast feeding can leave your body feeling tired and looking a bit deflated. Rather than spending this next summer hiding under swimwear cover-ups while your kids are begging you to get in the pool, maybe it’s time to look into a Mommy Makeover.

What’s a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is not a specific operation.  A woman undergoing a mommy makeover identifies two or more areas of her body she would like to improve.  Maybe her breasts deflated after breast feeding and she would like to have more shape and volume.  She may have loose abdominal skin that hangs over a cesarean section scar.  She may have gained a little weight and shape around her flanks that she can’t get rid of.  These areas may all be addressed at one surgical procedure, producing new curves, shapes, and contours.  Most women undergoing a mommy makeover combine an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) with some type of breast surgery.  It’s common for this to include breast augmentation and breast lift, but many women want to reduce the size of their breasts instead.

How Can I Decide Which Surgeries Are Right For Me?

Dr. Kunkel and his staff will spend a lot of time with you during your initial consultation to help you determine which procedures may be best for you.  It’s pretty common for a woman to do a lot of research before she ever comes to the office.  She may have seen a lot of before and after photographs as well as videos.  However, none of those photographs and videos relate to the woman specifically; they are random people on the internet.  During your visit with Dr. Kunkel, he will listen to what you want to accomplish, help you understand your unique anatomy, and make suggestions about what he thinks may work best for you.  A 3-D imaging system called Vectra is often used during the consultation.  It allows you to see your body from angles you normally don’t.  The Vectra system does not show you exactly what you will look like after surgery, but it is an amazing and very cool tool to help you understand the options better.
