Do I Get a Lift with My Breast Reduction?

I see a lot of women in my office in Fort Worth who are thinking about undergoing breast reduction surgery.  Breast reductions can lead to fabulous results!  Improvements in back pain, neck pain, and shoulder pain are common.  And maybe even better, women tend to look better.  And if they’re looking better, they really are feeling better.  Everybody I see wants to know, “Do I get a lift with my breast reduction?”.

The short answer to that is, yes, almost always you get a very noticeable lift.  There are a couple components to a breast lift that I want to talk about.  First is the nipples.  Do we move the nipples up?  During breast reductions, we almost always move the nipples up quite a bit.   In an “ideal” breast, the nipples are typically located a little above the bra line.  The bra line is the line where the breast meets the chest.  When you look in a mirror, if your nipples are below the bra line, they will almost certainly be moved up during a breast reduction.

Second, the bottom of the breasts.  Women typically do not like how their breasts rub on their chests.  In a breast reduction, the lower part of the breasts typically gets tightened pretty substantially.  That’s not to say that the breasts do not rub on the chest after surgery, they do.  But, it will likely be much less than it was before the procedure.

When you’re standing in front of a mirror after your next shower, take a look at where the lowest parts of your breasts are in relation to your elbow creases.  In most cases, the nipples and lowest parts of the breasts end up well-above the elbow creases after breast reduction surgery.  If you look at the ‘before and after’ photographs of our breast reduction patients on our website, notice the creases and lowest parts of the breasts before and after the procedure.  You wouldn’t look just like any one of these women, and they wouldn’t look like you.  But, usually the changes are pretty dramatic!

If you’re thinking about breast reduction surgery, we would love to see you in our office near the Fort Worth Medical District.  Give us a call!
