Case Details
This 57 year-old woman had undergone breast augmentation with silicone gel implants, and breast lifts, 33 years ago. A routine mammogram found both of her implants to be ruptured. She visited with Fort Worth plastic surgeon Dr. Kunkel to learn about her options. Dr. Kunkel found her to have hardening of the scar tissue around both breast implants (‘capsular contracture’). Her breast tissue had the appearance of cascading off the ends of her breast implants. She liked her overall size but wanted an improved shape and improved softness. Her surgery took place in a Fort Worth hospital. During her surgery, Dr. Kunkel removed the ruptured silicone gel implants and the scar tissue around them (‘capsulectomies’). He placed new 300 ml round silicone gel implants. To help minimize the risk of contracture occurring again, and to help minimize stretching in the lower areas of the breasts, Dr. Kunkel also placed GalaShape. This matrix material provides support and dissolves over about two years. Dr. Kunkel also revised her mastopexies, and grafted 105 ml fat into each breast. The postoperative result is shown 10 months later. Keep in mind that each person is unique, and individual results will vary.
