Shapes and colors have always fascinated me. Geometry was one of my favorite subjects. I think these things influenced me in my decision to become a plastic surgeon. In 2020 I began noticing more and more murals around Fort Worth. They’re everywhere now! It’s easy to drive right past them, though. Some are hidden in plain site. One of my favorites is at University Carwash (see the Superman mural below). So many people I know use that carwash and have never even seen the mural. I wrote about murals in the W. Magnolia Avenue area in October 2021. Murals in the North Side were highlighted in December 2021. I thought it might be fun to show murals from along a short area of University Drive in Fort Worth. They’re right there, but easy to miss.
I’ve listed and created links to the artists, when the artists are known. Some minor Photoshopping was done to some of these murals to eliminate weeds or other items that might otherwise detract from the absolutely incredible color and message of the art.
WestBend Murals
These murals are in the WestBend shopping area, across from University Village. You may have walked right past them. Here are a few of the murals you might see near the shops.
The parking garage has murals on each floor. Here’s an example.
Murals Near University Village in Fort Worth
Here are a couple murals just a short drive or walk from WestBend.
This mural is located on the Trinity Park bicycle path where it goes under I-30, behind Ol’ South Pancake House and Macaroni Grill:
Another short drive, this one toward Dickie’s Arena, takes you to these gems:
This beautiful mural is painted on bricks, to look like bricks, on the east side of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame:
Trinity Park Murals
There are actually too many murals in the park to show them all. The pillars supporting Lancaster Avenue as it passes over the park are full of murals. From the abstract to the comical, colorful art abounds! Here are some of my favorites.
You can easily spend 30 minutes looking at all the murals under the Lancaster Avenue bridge in Trinity Park. An entire basketball court has also been ‘muralized’ there as well. It’s a pretty special area.
More Fort Worth Murals
I came across most of the murals in this post accidentally. They’re not too far from my plastic surgery office in the Fort Worth Medical District. To see murals in the W. Magnolia Avenue area, click here. Murals in the North Side/Stockyards area can be seen here. In the next few months I’ll have more posts about murals in other parts of Fort Worth. Stay tuned!
