Case Details

This 63 year-old woman underwent breast augmentation with silicone gel implants 32 years ago.  She noticed her right breast had become firm and high.  A diagnostic mammogram and an ultrasound indicated her right breast implant may be ruptured.  She visited with Dr. Kunkel at his plastic surgery office near the Fort Worth Medical District to learn about her options.  She wanted to remain about the same size as she had been but wanted both breasts to be soft and look more symmetrical.  Her surgery was done at a Fort Worth hospital as an outpatient.  Dr. Kunkel removed both implants and the scar tissue around them (‘capsulectomies’).  Her right breast implant was found to be intact but the scar tissue around it was thick (‘capsular contracture’).  Her left breast implant was found to be ruptured.   Both of her implants had originally been placed in front of the pectoralis muscle.  Dr. Kunkel placed new 470 ml high profile round silicone gel breast implants behind the pectoralis muscle.  He also placed Strattice soft tissue matrix to help minimize her risk of developing capsular contracture in the future.  She loves the look and feel of both breasts again!  *Keep in mind that each person is unique, and individual results will vary.
